Bhagavad Gita Chapter 1 -Arjuna Vishada Yoga - Sloka 23

The entire content of this mail is from Swami Chidbahavananda's translation of  The Bhagavad Gita, published by Ramakrishna Mission.

Chapter 1 - Sloka 23
Kumbakonam Aravamudan
Yotasyamanan avekshe aham ye ete tra samagatah I
dhartarashtrasya durbuddher yudadhe priya chikirshavah II sloka 23

योतस्यमानान अवेक्षे अहं ये एतेत्र समागताः ।
धार्तरारष्ट्रस्य दुर्बुद्धेर युद्धे प्रिय चिकीर्षवः ।। श्लोक २३

I desire to discern those that throng here to fight, intent on pleasing in battle, the evil minded son of Dritarashtra

Inordinate zeal is very often the precursor of a soul damping depression. Arjuna is unwittingly subjecting himself to this unwanted vacillation. Hence this hankering to scan his foes.
