Swerve not from your Duty - 31-37
1 Gita Sloka every day - Chapter 2 - Samkhya Yoga - Sloka 37

Hatah va Prapsyasi svargam jitva va bhokshyase mahim I
Tasmat udatisht kaunteya yuddhaya kruta nih chyah II sloka 37
हतः वा प्राप्स्यसि स्वर्गं जित्वा वा भोक्ष्यसे महीं ।
तस्मात उदतिष्टेय कौन्तेय कृत निः चयः ।। श्लोक ३७
Slain you will gain heaven; victorious you will enjoy the earth. Therefore rouse up O son of Kunti, resolved to fight.

As foreign matter in the body has to be eliminated through disease, the wicked in the world have to be eliminated through a righteous war. After recounting the evils that would befall the society if this war was not waged, the good that would ensue are now enumerated. A righteous warfare abounds with welfare both here and hereafter. It is the only panacea against the incorrigibles. Would a zealous defender of righteousness ever let go of a golden opportunity?

Viewed from a worldly standpoint, Arjuna has no grounds for grieving and for beating a retreat. After making his position clear, the Yogeswara now seeks to introduce yoga into teh otherwise earthly life in the next sloka.
