Journeying through The Ramayana Day 13 @ Ramtek & onwards

RAMTEK – RAMAGIRI
An entire day was spent travelling to reach this beautiful hilltop location of Ramtek or Ramagiri. This temple, on top of a beautiful big hill called Ramagiri, is just 55 kms before Nagpur.

At Agastya ashram, Rama advised Rama to spend the last months of his exile at Panchavati. Rama accepted his advice immediately and set out with Sita and Lakshmana towards Panchavati, which is in Nashik today.

During this travel from Agastya ashram to Panchavati, the divine couple rested here at Ramtek for a while and bathed here at the Ram Talaab at the foot of the hill.  The local folk lore says that Rama came here actually in search of Shambookan who was doing tapas against his caste, which had affected the life span of a Brahmin child. Rama is said to have beheaded him and set dharma on its path again.

Atop  the Ramagiri hill is another Agastya ashram with sannidhis for Lakshmana, Sita-Rama, RadhaKrishna & a separate one for Sage Agastya. The temple is beautiful and all the tiredness of climbing up is lost as we enter the temple precincts. The wind catches the happiness of our soul and lifts our spirits. There is also a mandapam a little ahead, on top of an elevation, which has Rama’s feet.

Strangely  the place has a lot of of gentle lemurs or langoors unlike other locations that have had aggressive monkeys.
